Date: 2019-01-29 01:16 am (UTC)B: I'm sure that all of my characters have bits and bobs of me in there. Like Chuck and Eleanor have my sense of style executed in ways that are impossible in real life. But I don't know if I've ever really taken an event from my life and put it into a story. Maybe I should try that some time!
U: 1. Neil Gaiman - he really grows over time and isn't afraid to admit when aspects of some of his works haven't aged super well. Some writers run away from that, but not Mr. Gaiman. He's a gem. 2. Margaret Weiss - I don't know what she does these days, and I've only read one of her series, but it was one of the most formative series of my youth (the Death Gate saga) and it was really the first one that pulled me into a full-on fantasyscape and had me envisioning worlds that looked completely different from anything on Earth. 3. I don't know if I can call Cormac McCarthy one of my favourite authors when I'm pretty sure I've legit only read one of his books, but The Road is one of few books that I've actually read multiple times cover to cover. I dig it. Kinda want to read it again, but right now I'm reading something ELSE which gets a shoutout because:
Magyk by Angie Sage is good stuff. Thoroughly enjoying it tbqh, BUT I haven't finished it yet so I don't know if I can rank her as a fave author. Special mention, though. She somehow manages to divert from what I think is going to happen over and over and over again. It's so refreshing!
S: Fandom tropes I can't resist? Oh gosh...of course. So...I'm a sucker for "stuck in an elevator," and "let us two people who don't know each other or don't get along pretend to be married to accomplish ___." I don't think I've ever actually written either of them but I LOVE THEM.
